Dear Jim,

Why are there no crosses on LDS Churches?

Kelley,

Mormonism downplays the Cross. Christ's work on the Cross does not buy salvation for sinners, it merely buys them resurrection. Salvation--exaltation--in Mormonism is a human work through obedience to law.

Mormons often say, "If Jesus had been killed with a hand gun would you wear a pistol around your neck?" So Mormonism completely misses the value of the cross. As the Bible says, "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (I Cor. 1:18)
